Draft a polite message asking a client to evidence or change a claim you are not comfortable writing
The problem
In the ProCopywriters survey, 13% of respondents had been asked to write misleading or unethical copy in the past year, and 23% of those wrote it anyway. Saying no to a client is hard when the relationship matters and you are not sure of the rules. AI can draft a calm message from your own note of the claim and your position that asks the client for the evidence behind it, or proposes the claim is left out, and a record of the exchange. It does not decide whether a claim is misleading, unlawful or breaches the CAP Code: the ASA's guidance and your own judgement do, and a solicitor can advise on a serious case.
What AI does
AI drafts a calm, professional message asking a client for evidence for a claim, or to change it, based on your own note and decision. It never says the claim is unlawful or misleading; you check the official ASA guidance and take advice if you are unsure (UK).
Time
The steps, in short
- Note the claim and your concern about it, in one neutral line.
- Read the ASA's guidance on misleading claims and decide what you will ask for.
- Have AI draft a calm message from your note and decision.
- Remove any accusation, send it, and hold the claim until you are satisfied with the evidence.
A short sample prompt
A client wants me to include [CLAIM], and I'm uneasy because [your reason]. I've decided to [ask for evidence, suggest new wording, or decline that part]. Draft a calm, professional message to [CLIENT CONTACT] that does not accuse them of anything.
