From the AI playbook for independent vet practices

New to AI? You don't need to learn anything first. Follow the steps below: open the tool, paste the prompt, fill in the [brackets], then check the result before you use or send it. See also how to use AI at work, for beginners.

Job 3 of 21ChatGPTGemini

Build the checklist and templates for where the written-prescription notices go, using the official wording

The final Order gives you ready-made wording for the notice, the email line and the invoice footer, and says where each must appear. The work left is practical: finding every place a client sees a notice, and making sure your software puts the right text there. AI can build the checklist and tidy the staff wording. It must not rewrite the official wording, and it has no say on any prescribing decision.

Steps

  1. Open the Order, Article 14, and the CMA's Schedule 2 notice. List each place the Order says something must appear: the notice in waiting areas and each consulting room, the website, the sentence in consultation emails and texts, and the footer on invoices and receipts where medicine was sold.
  2. Add your own places: booking confirmations, welcome packs, the registration form, reception handouts.
  3. Paste the list into the prompt and ask for one checklist per site with a column for who is responsible, date done and photo or screenshot taken.
  4. Ask for a short script for reception explaining where to find written-prescription information. The vets handle the oral offer during consultations.
  5. Use the official wording exactly as published. If the CMA or RCVS update a notice, the Order gives you one month to change it, so set a reminder.

I manage a UK independent vet practice. Build a compliance checklist and a short reception script from the facts below. Do not rewrite, shorten or reword any official notice text, and do not say anything about which medicines a pet should take, whether to buy medicines elsewhere or any dose.
Places where the CMA Order says written-prescription information must appear (my notes from Article 14): [list].
Other places we communicate with clients: [list].
Number of sites: [number]. Rooms per site: [waiting area, consulting rooms, reception].
Produce: (1) a checklist table, one line per place, with columns place, what must be there, who is responsible, date checked, evidence kept (photo or screenshot); (2) a script of five sentences or fewer for reception staff to tell a client where written-prescription information is, using only these words: [paste the official sentence].

✓ Check before you send

  • The notice wording comes straight from the CMA or RCVS and has not been edited by the tool.
  • Every consulting room and waiting or reception area is on the checklist.
  • The invoice footer and the email sentence are set up in your practice software, not just typed into templates.
  • Reception staff do not give advice on medicines; questions about a pet's treatment go to a vet.
  • You have noted the date for your size and how updates will reach you.

UK notes extra

  • Article 14 of the final Order (UK-wide) requires the standard notice displayed at least A3 in waiting or reception areas and each consulting room, with the up-to-date written prescription fee. It requires a fixed sentence in emails and texts about upcoming consultations and a fixed notification in the footer of invoices and receipts where medicine was sold, plus an oral offer from the prescribing vet unless an exception applies. The Veterinary Services Market Investigation Order 2026 (PDF).
  • The standard notice is published by the CMA as Schedule 2 and the RCVS supplies the digital versions of the literature. The Order's compliance date for small businesses is 22 September 2027 per the Article 3 table. CMA: Schedule 2, standard written prescription notice (PDF).
  • Article 18 caps the fee for a written prescription (initially £21.40 for the first medicine in a consultation and £12.70 for each additional medicine, including VAT). The CMA's own guidance page rounds these to £21 and £12.50, so use the Order's figures. CMA: Veterinary Services Market Investigation Order 2026 (final, published 22 September 2026) and schedules.
