Turn your prices into the standard price list the CMA Order requires
The final Order sets out a defined list of services, with fixed names, VAT-inclusive prices and weight bands for dogs. Doing the mapping by hand from your practice software, one service at a time, is slow and easy to get wrong. AI can lay your own prices out against the headings you paste in. It does not set a price or decide what is included. Your practice manager and vets do.
Steps
- Download the official Schedule 1 price list schedule from the CMA page and open your practice software's fee list. Work only from these two documents.
- Mark which Schedule 1 services you offer. Services you do not offer are left off the list (the Order has a separate rule if you routinely refer a service on to a third party, so note those).
- For each service you offer, write down your typical price including VAT, by cat and dog weight band where your price varies. Your vets confirm what the typical case is and which items (anaesthetic, pain relief, blood tests and so on) your price normally includes.
- Paste the Schedule 1 names, your prices and your inclusions into the prompt and ask for a table in Schedule 1 order that uses the exact names, with no extra descriptive text in the list itself. Schedule 1 also lists extra information required alongside the price on some lines (for example the standard appointment length in minutes for first and nurse consultations, the out-of-hours provider's name and website link, a link to plan details for the pet care plan line and any charge for extra animals on an animal health certificate). Include each one.
- Compare every line to your software and to Schedule 1, then have a second person check it before it goes on the website, at reception and into the RCVS submission.
The exact prompt
I manage a UK independent vet practice. Lay out our price list as a table using ONLY the information below. Do not change service names, do not add services, and do not give any clinical or treatment information. Service names to use, exactly as written (from the CMA's Schedule 1, pasted here): [paste the Schedule 1 names for the services we offer]. Our prices including VAT: [service: price, with the weight band or species if our price varies]. Services we do not offer: [list]. Services we routinely refer to another provider: [list]. Items our practice normally includes in dental assessment, castration and spay prices, as decided by our vets: [list each item and whether it is included or charged separately]. Extra information Schedule 1 requires per line, pasted from the schedule: [paste]. Produce: (1) a table in the same order as the schedule with columns service, species or weight band, price including VAT and the extra information Schedule 1 requires for that line (from the list I paste here); (2) for the dental, castration and spay lines, a tick-box column for each included item; (3) a list of any service where I have not given you a price, so I can fill it in. No descriptive sentences inside the table.
✓ Check before you send
- Every service name matches Schedule 1 exactly, with nothing reworded, and every extra item Schedule 1 asks for is present.
- Every price comes from your software and includes VAT; nothing was filled in by the tool.
- A vet has confirmed what your price normally includes for the dental, castration and spay lines.
- The page is one click from the homepage and uses "price", "prices", "pricing" or "fees" in its navigation and page metadata, and a paper version is at reception.
- Your practice owner or manager has checked the finished list against the Order itself, not this summary.
UK notes extra
- The Order applies across the UK (England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) to businesses that provide veterinary services for household pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, birds, reptiles and similar, but not livestock, poultry or horses), and it excludes some registered charities. If you mainly treat farm animals or horses, check whether it applies to you. The CMA's notice of making the Order is dated 22 September 2026, and the compliance date for the price list depends on your size: its Article 3 table lists 22 March 2027 for a small business (fewer than 15 practices or out-of-hours centres), and you must comply from the next working day after the date in the table. Check the table for your own date. CMA: Veterinary Services Market Investigation Order 2026 (final, published 22 September 2026) and schedules.
- Article 7 and Schedule 1 set the service names, the weight bands, the requirement that prices include VAT and are up to date, and the statement that prices are for the typical case and may rise in complex cases. The price list must be updated before any new price is charged. CMA: Schedule 1, the price list schedule (PDF).
- The CMA also published an indicative price list as an illustration of the format. CMA: Annex 1, indicative price list (PDF).
