Write a reply to a tenant's pet request and work out the 28-day deadline, using your own reasons and GOV.UK's wording
The problem
Since 1 May 2026, a tenant of an assured periodic tenancy in England can ask in writing to keep a pet, and the landlord must give or refuse consent in writing within 28 days. Consent cannot be unreasonably refused, and GOV.UK lists examples that may be reasonable and examples that would usually be unreasonable. Many landlords have never had to answer this in writing, and a late or vague reply puts them on the back foot. AI can draft the acknowledgement, a request for more information, and a consent or refusal letter from your own reasons and a date table you fill in by hand. It cannot decide whether a refusal is reasonable: you decide that, and take advice if unsure.
What AI does
AI drafts the written replies to a tenant's pet request from your own decision and reasons, using roles instead of names. You count the deadline yourself, decide whether any refusal is reasonable, and take advice if unsure (England).
Time
The steps, in short
- Note the date the written request arrived and count the deadline yourself on a calendar.
- Read the official GOV.UK guidance and decide your answer, taking advice if you are unsure.
- Have AI draft the letter you need from your decision and reasons.
- Check each date and line, then send it in writing and keep proof of sending.
